Outdoor Solar Lights

If you want an economical way to make the outside of your house beautiful at night, then you should consider outdoor solar lights. A lot of homeowners shy away from using too much outdoor lighting because it seems like a waste to pay for electricity that lights an area that no one is using during nighttime hours. But solar lights solve that problem. Solar lights use the power of sunlight to charge batteries that in turn power LEDs or light emitting devices. Not only do they not require electricity, but LED lighting is softer and sometimes nicer for outdoor lighting where you are not trying to read something or do not need very bright illumination.

Solar lights comes in many styles and many varieties. You can find solar garden lights or solar accent lights that will show off parts of your landscaping or gardening. Many times these lights are disguised as some other item like a rock or small statue so that people do not realize their true purpose during daylight hours. There are also solar pathway lights or solar step lights that help to show the way up a path or sidewalk to your front door. These lights often come designed as small lanterns that stick into the ground at intervals along both sides of the sidewalk. The step lights will be installed on the riser part of each step shining down onto the step below.

There is also solar security lighting. Flood lights that are motion activated are installed on the roof or near your gutter system over doors or high traffic areas. Not only do they provide light for you and your family as you enter and exit the house, but they can alert you to a possible intruder if someone happens to wonder too close to your house. One last use for solar lighting is for outdoor patio or deck lighting. Hanging lights or Tiki style torches along the edges of your outdoor seating area can provide enough lighting to entertain if not to read.

In addition to saving you money on energy, solar lights have another advantage in that there are no light bulbs to change. Normal outdoor lights might need a light bulb changed out every once in a while. LEDs have a very long lifespan and are not likely to need replaced in a twenty year timeframe. The only part of a solar light fixture that might need to be replaced is the rechargeable batteries. If you notice that your solar lights are not shedding as much light as before and you have not noticed a drop in sunlight, then change your batteries. This process is pretty simple, but you might want to wear a pair of working gloves in case one of the batteries is leaking or damaged in any way
