It was more than one hundred years that the bathroom sink did not change at all. It stayed the same bowl shaped white porcelain that started cracking and yellowing a few years after you take it out of the box. The white porcelain sink has been used in households for so long for many reasons but the most important is that it is the cheapest sink you can buy and builders like to save money. Most home buyers have no idea. The sink looks all white and shiny and it is brand new so it has to be good. The sinks are either white porcelain or cast iron covered with white porcelain and cast iron is both very brittle. Porcelain is also known to hold all the chemicals and metals in the water and this is what quickly gives it its yellow tinge.
Bathroom vessels sinks, especially the copper design which are available are slowly starting to claim larger and larger parts of the market. Many people are discovering that if they want a bathroom sink that will stay looking good and not have to be replaced for many years they should go with a metal sink. Stainless steel is not really appropriate for a bathroom outside of the bus station or jail so it really is not a choice. It turns out that copper works very well for bathroom vessel sinks.
Copper vessel sinks do not rust like other metals and are much easier to clean than porcelain. Because of the smoothness of copper it turns out to be very resistant to microbial build up common in porcelain. If your bathroom has heavy use you will appreciate this feature most of all.
When you are selecting a bathroom vessel sink made of copper you should look for one with the thickest copper. The thicker the copper the better the sink and the longer it will last. Also, copper is soft and subject to both dents and scratches. While thickness will not prevent scratches it will prevent dents.
