Outside showers are built as a part of the home or as a part of the landscape. Conventionally, these showers were installed in beach houses or near pools so as to clean up after a swim. These showers were installed in the backyard as a convenient place to wash off before entering the house. With the ever changing concepts of home planning, outdoor showers have also evolved over time- from a convenient place for cleaning up, to a place for relaxation and to connect with nature.
The shower could be set up outside the house as stand-alone, wall-mounted or as an extension from the inside of the building and which opens out.
An outdoor shower is mainly set up in the backyard. Natural materials are used for its construction. If you are living in isolated houses away from the prying eyes of nosy neighbors, then you could have an open bath. Enclosures will be needed for your showers if you have neighbors close-by.
The best
outdoor bath shower design uses redwood for enclosures. Though this may seem very common, but it is still the best design as the shower will completely blend with the landscape. Natural stone is used to provide the base to give that complete natural look. The showerheads should always be of stainless steel or brass to with stand the effects of cold weather. You may go for a partially open roof that will ensure privacy as well as a connection to the outdoors.
For an open shower you could use bamboo also for enclosures and this will also give the perfect natural look.
Hooks and rails to hang the clothes may be provided. Stands or seats for the toiletries should not be forgotten. Care should be taken to give proper drainage. Normally, for showers, the water drains down the soil. If it is not allowed under the building rules and regulations, the drain should be connected to the drainage line.
In contemporary homes, outside showers are provided as an extension to the interior bathrooms. This is not intended to clean off the dirt after toiling in the garden, but is a place to relax and be with the nature. For privacy, bamboo screens or pergola vines are used. The showers are designed along with the house and are kept as discreet as possible. The enclosures will be made of natural materials that could resist a rainstorm. As sun and rain will come straight inside your shower the accessories for hanging clothes, soap trays, other stacks etc should be placed away from the open area.
Whatever materials you are using, it should be resistant to mildews and rotting and it should be easy to maintain. Without proper plumbing and drainage, even the best design will not be that pleasing.
