Breathing Life into the Kitchen

Renovating the kitchen can be a pain. Typically when homeowners finally do renovate this room they are still just as stale as before. By using tile in creative ways we can actually add some life to this otherwise lifeless room.

The biggest tiled area in the kitchen is the floor. This is also the best place to be creative because of the large canvas you have. Tiles that are made of ceramic work best for floor tile because they are durable and fairly easy when it comes to the cleaning kitchen tiles. You don’t want tile that will chip or crack from all the traffic.

You can purchase ceramic tiles that come with different patterns printed on them or are printed with just a solid color. You can also purchase tile that can be arranged in a predetermined pattern. This means that you get the design layout and all the colored tiles and have to lay them down in a specific order; similar to a paint-by-numbers picture. If you are feeling especially creative you can buy various colors or shades then mix and match them how you would like for your own very unique pattern.

The left over old kitchen tiles can be used to add accents to the counters and backsplash. When decorating the countertops and backsplashes it is good to note that you want to use the same tint or color scheme so that the kitchen can retain its unity.

When it comes to laying tile it may be best to get an expert. If you are familiar with the process or just feel pretty confident from your research that you can complete the task then by all means Do-It-Yourself. Using a professional can be expensive and they won’t put the same type of attention and love into the project that you would.

One of the best ways to decorate the kitchen and make it your own is with an assortment of tiles. Spicing up this utilitarian room can be fun when you add a little creativity and color to it.
