Put A Little Extra Time Into Choosing Your Guitar Cases

When you’re choosing which guitar cases will be suitable for your instruments, it’s important to consider a few different aspects regarding the different styles that are available. Quality of construction, inner padding and shape are a few we will focus on.

The quality of your guitar case should be of a level that you can be comfortable that when you’re transporting any of your guitar instruments that the handle isn’t going to break off or one of the latches will come open. This could spell tragedy for your guitar and I’m sure you don’t want this to happen. When inspecting a new case, ensure that the latches close securely and don’t feel like they will open inadvertently and make sure the handle rivets don’t have any excess movement in them.

The inner padding is somewhat important, as you want your guitar to stay securely in place while you’re transporting it from studio to gig to home. Velvet and foam are 2 of the most common. Just ensure that if it is a material of some sort that it has a foam layer beneath it. This adds an important layer of protection and can mean the difference between a damaged headstock or not.

A lot of cheaper guitar cases are rectangle shaped as this allows for a larger selection of guitars to fit into them. This style allows for a little more movement of the guitar while transporting and does not allow for a secure fit. Fitted and general guitar shape case make for a much more movement-free fit and are definitely worth the extra few dollars. A custom fit case will be the most secure as your guitar will fit exactly size for size, give or take a half an inch or so.

Do some research and try to find a quality case on sale. Make sure you inspect all the hardware before you purchase and also have your guitar with you so you can try it in the guitar cases you’re considering.
