There is a school of thought that learning only takes place in a traditional classroom. Fortunately, this thought pattern is being proved wrong almost every day of the week by the thousands of students that study through
online classes.
Unschooling and homeschooling offer great alternatives to a public school education but are often difficult to convince those responsible to give you an attempt. In addition, these alternatives do not provide the proof of a diploma that can be handed to an employer or college. The options for this type of education is generally the online diploma or the GED.
Online high school offers much the same curriculum as the traditional school, but online rather than in a conventional classroom. Tests can be done when you are confident that you understand the material. If you have a question, you can use online chat rooms or forums. You have the opportunities to make friends and visit online. The best part, is that you can choose to do your work when you are ready in a way that fits your schedule.
Online high school diplomas are equivalent to the regular diplomas, as long as there is accreditation for the online school. When you school is accredited, both colleges and employers should accept the diploma at its stated value. This is certainly helpful with the three to five percent of employers and colleges that do not accept the GED.
Graduation requirements for the online school may allow you to complete your education a few years earlier than the other students in traditional classrooms. Since you work at your own pace, you may be able to work ahead. In contrast, many states require that students be over 16 to complete their GED. Some virtual high schools are now operating as charter schools and receive public school funding.
