Pre-wedding Rituals

Months of precise planning have come to fruition, and your wedding day is finally here! Set your alarm early so you don’t have to rush, and let the preparations begin…

Getting ready is half the fun. Make sure you leave plenty of time to enjoy this unique moment, as it’s your last as a single woman! Take time to indulge in a leisurely breakfast, then create a relaxing atmosphere to get ready in. You could do this by playing your favourite music or burning a few scented candles or oils – whatever makes you feel at ease. Next, treat yourself to a long shower before dressing in comfortable clothes. Consider wearing a button-up shirt to stop you from spoiling your hair and makeup when you get changed later on. Bear in mind that if your gown is strapless or low-cut, you won’t be able to wear a bra, as this will leave marks on your skin that may take several hours to fade.

Hair and make-up

Whether you’re having your hair and makeup done professionally or are doing it yourself, it’s important to allocate plenty of time to this part of the day. Extra time will certainly be a requirement if you are going off-site; you may also need to pack a bag of essential items, such as hair accessories – do this the day before the wedding so you don’t forget anything.

Accessories

Lay your accessories out the day before the wedding so that you don’t forget anything. Ask your bridesmaids to help you put on any jewellery so that you don’t break or chip your nails, and don’t forget to move your engagement ring to your right hand.

The overall look

Now that you are fully dressed and have spent some time moving around in your outfit, take a few minutes to practise posing in front of the mirror. Find out which angles are the most flattering for your body shape and those that show off your gown to its full potential, and also check your posture. Finally, don’t forget to practise the ultimate bridal accessory – your smile!

Take some time out at this point to reflect on the meaning of the day, and then give yourself a last once-over in the mirror. This is also the perfect moment to spray yourself with perfume, so that the scent is at its best when you arrive at the ceremony – just be careful not to spray it directly onto your gown as it may stain. Now you are ready to walk down the aisle!
