Being able to succeed as a
surgical technologist may seem like an easy task, but in reality, the duties that may seem easy to accomplish are much more challenging once in the operating room dealing with patients that are having complex and life-changing operations. While the gists of surgical techs responsibilities consist of assisting the attending surgeon during operations and procedures by passing instruments, helping with the retraction of tissues and taking care of suturing, there are many different skills that must be possessed in order to excel and succeed at this profession. First off, an individual must be able to work excellent under pressure as operating rooms often are filled with pressure because there is never a minor surgery; going under the knife is very serious and must be taken with the greatest precautions. There are many risks and having a surgeon make one simple mistake during an operation could literally alter someone’s entire life or take it away, that is why both the surgeon and surgical technician need to concentrate the entire time they spend in the operating room.
Having the ability to work with great speed and accuracy is definitely needed in this profession because if a person is fumbling around the instruments, tools and equipment that are needed during the operation that means the surgeon will not have what they need in time which could be harmful to the patient. Along with having full concentration, a surgical tech must anticipate a surgeon’s moves so that they can have every instrument ready for them when the surgeon needs it without them having to ask. Additionally, because some operations can take many hours, this field of work demands outstanding endurance so that an individual does not become weary or tired on the job. All in all, there are many different requirements that make succeeding in this profession a tough task but those who can and do will be rewarded with an excellent
surgical technician salary.
