I love to buy jewelry boxes. Even if I don’t need a new one, I often find myself picking them up at garage sales or even at the store if I see one that catches my fancy. It has been a hobby of mine for several years and as a result of my affinity for beautiful jewelry boxes, I have several extra boxes sitting around my house. Some of my
jewelry boxes are old and in need of some TLC and other are brand new, pristine and beautiful.
Until recently I was not sure what to do with them so I began to look around for alternate uses. After all, I could not justify purchasing any more if I could not find a use for the ones that I already had. With all the drawers and small spaces, I figured there must be some other things that I could use them for. Following is what I decided to use them for.
Seed storage - Since I was a gardener and I always have a ton of seeds sitting around that I have purchased or collected from others, I decided to employ one of my jewelry boxes for seed storage. All of the compartments and spaces provide a perfect haven to protect and organize my seeds. Additionally, the jewelry box that I used is much more aesthetically pleasing than the old plastic fishing tackle box that I used to have and now sits prominently on the table in my mini greenhouse where I work and start all of my seedlings.
Crafts – I like arts and crafts and have collected many different types of sequins, buttons, beads and other small craft items. I previously stored all of these items in a large plastic bag. Finding what I needed meant that I had to dump everything out on a table. Now that I have used one of my jewelry boxes all of the items are neatly organized and easily found.
Key Holder – We have a drawer full of keys. We have spare keys, keys to items that we rarely use for things such as luggage, toys, sheds, etc. Up until recently they were all bouncing around in a drawer. Now they are neatly organized and labeled in a large rectangular leather jewelry box. Additionally, the ring folds make excellent holders for very small keys that you would otherwise lose.
Coin Collectables – I have some old coins that my father used to collect. I cannot dare to part with them since they were from my dad even though I know they would be worth some money. Until recently, they were sitting in a drawer. Now I have them prominently displayed and organized in a large
wooden jewelry box with a glass top. Much like the keys, the ring folds make excellent coin holders.
